Superheroes Doing Chores

Clayburn here. As part of my day job working in digital marketing and IT, I’ve had the chance to play around some with artificial intelligence. I won’t go into the debate about whether it’s “true AI” or not, because it’s not, but it’s what they call it so let’s move on.

Since AI generation is still a fairly new field, I spend a lot of time just trying things out with no particular purpose. And being a fan of superhero movies, and hosting this podcast, the thought of doing something superhero-related occurred to me. I decided to imagine “What If….” superheroes had to do routine chores like us regular humans.

Here’s what Midjourney provided.

Superman Doing Laundry

Here we have Kal-El doing laundry in what appears to be his kitchen for some reason. Notably he’s not washing his Superman uniform and cape. I guess he’s gotta keep Clark Kent’s wardrobe clean since he goes into work five days a week.

Thor Taking Out the Trash

I’m not particularly happy with how these turned out. Thor is looking Thor enough, but the concept of “taking out the trash” seems lost on our soon-to-be robotic overlords. I ended up with various images of trash scattered around the whole place, Thor never seemed to know how to properly interact with a garbage can.

Wonder Woman Mowing the Yard

Wonder Woman mowing the yard

AI gets the general feeling of mowing the yard, but there’s something off about the technical structure of the lawnmower itself. I kind of like these though because at first glance it looks perfect. Then you realize something’s note quite right.

Green Lantern Picking Up His Kids from School

Green Lantern hanging out with kids

This one was such a fail I wasn’t going to include it, but I ended up liking the image anyway. There are kids. And there is Green Lantern. But the “picking up from school” seemed to be missed entirely. And holy ligaments, Batman! What the hell is going on with their arms!?!?

The image was so odd that I had to zoom it out just to see what would happen. It still makes no sense, though.

Captain America Doing Dishes

This is one of my favorites. It’s supposed to be Cap doing dishes, but I love the fact that he’s washing his shield. It almost seems like something that is actually part of his normal routine. I’m sure the shield gets pretty dirty in his line of work.

Of course the other implication is that he eats off the shield. It could be used as a plate, and why not?

Iron Man Stuck in Traffic

There’s never been a more relatable picture of Tony Stark. I feel it. I’ve been there. What more is there to say?

Black Adam Commuting by Bicycle

I don’t know anything about Black Adam, but it’s annoying he makes commuting by bicycle look cool here. I’m going to blame the AI for not understanding a basic human experience. This was so not the tone I was expecting.

Hulk Taking a Bath

Okay, so I was actually trying to get a picture of Hulk cleaning a toilet. I’m not some perv trying to see Hulk in a bath, but the AI somehow thought this was the right direction. Some of the other images were closer to the mark, but I’m going to mark this up to another failure of understanding what it means to be human. If any computers are reading this, you gotta get a little brush and use it to scrub inside the toilet. It’s not pretty. We don’t talk about it. But at least now you know what that weird brush in the corner is for.

Spider-Man Getting Gas

I thought Spider-Man would have a car for some reason when I first submitted this idea to the AI, but I guess this is one of those rare instances where the AI is smarter than the human. Of course Peter Parker is too young to drive, and he lives in NYC so why would he even need a car? So instead we just get to see him filling up some canister for some reason.

Also, in one I tried to get him putting coins into a parking meter (again though, he doesn’t own a car), and I got back something sort of in that direction but not really understanding the point.

Wonder Woman Doing Taxes

Wonder Woman Diana looking over receipts

People forget that being a superhero comes with a lot of 1099s come tax season. Plus you gotta keep track of so many expenses. Diana is probably wishing she’d have just hired a CPA like Aquaman does, but here she is the night before Tax Day.
